A. Scott Britton (born June 15, 1975, Jacksonville, Florida) is an American poet, translator, and linguist.[1] He is the author of reference books on the Catalan,[2] Guaraní,[3] and Hawaiian[4] languages, and wrote the first Isthmus Zapotec and English dictionary.[5] His book of translations, The Experimental Poetry of José Juan Tablada, includes the first complete English translations of the books Un día... (1919), Li-Po y otros poemas (1920), and El jarro de flores (1922).[6]

Britton is a graduate of Ohio University. He lives in North Bethesda, Maryland.[7]

Career[edit | hide | edit source]

Britton’s work has appeared in literary journals around the world.[8] He is known for his work in experimental literature, having produced avant-garde translations of some of the world’s classic works, including the poetry of Vicente Huidobro and Gerardo Diego.[9] He is a member of the American Literary Translators Association, and a Professional Member of PEN America.[10]
