AJ Atencio (born 1976) is a Las Vegas personality and a professional sports bettor. In 2004, AJ created Hittingpaydirt.com, an online source for recreational and semi-professional sports bettors alike. In 2006, Mark Mays joined Hittingpaydirt as a featured handicapper. AJ has participated in several of Las Vegas' handicapping contests over the past 10 years. In 2003, AJ ran for public office  after serving as a youth athletic director from 1999-2002.

Handicapping is a person or group who breaks down sporting events in order to gain an edge for purposes of profit. Nevada is the only state (USA) where bettors can legally wager on most major sports without Parlay (gambling). Hittingpaydirt, commonly referred to as HPD, focuses on professional basketball National Basketball Association, professional football National Football League, professional baseball Major League Baseball and college football/basketball National Collegiate Athletic Association. HPD is known for their low volume approach with the vast majority of their bets placed on the Underdog (term).
