In November 2012 she was filed berating and cursing Israeli soldiers in a video that went viral.[7][8][9][10] The following week her family claims she was hurt by rubber bullets and tear gas in a "revenge" attack.[11]

In December 2012 she was awarded the Hanzala Award for Courage in Turkey by the Başakşehir municipality for challenging Israeli soldiers who arrested her brother,[12][13][14][15][16][15] she subsequently met and ate breakfast with Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.[17][18][19]

In December 2017, she was filmed slapping an Israeli officer and soldier who who both displayed restraint while being filmed, in a video that went viral. Tamimi claimed she was distraught since her cousin was shot moments before with a rubber bullet during clashes with Israeli soldiers.[24][25][26][27][28][29] The restraint shown by the soldiers was a matter of debate in Israeli society over the appropriateness of not responding to a provocation and whether the restraint was a sign of strength or fear.[30]
