Alec Hartman (b. February 6, 1986) is an American entrepreneur. He is co-founder of DigitalOcean and the TechDay[1][2] event series in New York City, Los Angeles and London.[3][4]

After graduating from Suncoast High School's International Baccalaureate Program in 2003, Hartman moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Emory University where he majored in Political Science and Philosophy.[5] Shortly after leaving Emory, Alec taught himself software development.

Career[edit | hide | edit source]

Hartman is a co-founder of DigitalOcean,[6] a hosting company located in New York, NY. DigitalOcean is a TechStars alumni company, and has raised more than $300M in venture financing rounds.[6] In 2012 Hartman started TechDay, an event to help entrepreneurs. TechDay's first event took place at the Lexington Armory with 200+ startups and over 5,000 attendees. Since 2012, TechDay has held events annually in New York, with the 2016 event reaching the heights of the largest startup event in the US.[7][8][9] In 2014 the NYC Comptroller, Scott Stringer, visited TechDay.[10] He is an investor in AdvisorConnect, Oliver and PhamilyCares.[11]

Alec Hartman's companies have been featured in publications such as Business Insider [12], Forbes [13], Los Angeles Times [14][15], and The Washington Post. [16]

Hartman has mentored at accelerators around the world including TechStars [17], Startup Bootcamp [18], MassChallenge, TechStars Berlin [19], Metro Accelerator, French Accelerator, and NYC Big Apps. Alec also takes time to help students learn to code.

Other works[edit | hide | edit source]

Hartman serves as a diplomatic advisor to the Estonian Government on their e-residency program and is also a member of the Bermuda Tourism Advisory Board.[20]

Personal life[edit | hide | edit source]

Hartman is married to Marcie Hartman. They live in the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He owns a labradoodle named Rio.[21]
