Ali Akbar (born November 21, 1974 in Jakarta) is an Indonesian art director and photographer.

Akbar’s passion in photography and design was kindled as a boy in his elementary school years. At home, he designed a faux newspaper of his own from magazine cut-outs and his photo works, had them xeroxed and hawked around his neighborhood.[1]

His exposure to the 1960s and 1970s music from his father’s music collection led him to enroll in the Graphic Design Department at the Jakarta Institute of Arts (IKJ) to pursue his dreams in making music album cover art.[1]

Akbar began working in the advertising industry after studying at IKJ. His professional career as an art director in various ad agencies, such as Leo Burnett (Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur), and Ogilvy Jakarta has earned him local and international awards.[1]

RecentlyTemplate:When? he set up Ali Akbar Studio, a photography studio where he focuses on developing a conceptual approach to commercial photography and image-making.[2] His works have been exhibited in many avenues such as the Right Wing Violence poster exhibition held at Goethe-Institut Jakarta, Jakarta Biennale XIII billboard exhibition[3][4] and D&AD sector showcase, London.
